On January 5, 2019, Prof. Kelly J. Shannon was awarded the Stuart L. Bernath Lecture Prize from the Society for Historians of American Foreign Relations (SHAFR). The Bernath Lecture Prize, which recognizes and encourages excellence in research and teaching in the field of foreign relations by younger scholars (under age 41 or within 10 years of the Ph.D.), is one of the most prestigious prizes that SHAFR awards. Previous Bernath lecturers have gone on to become prominent scholars and influential leaders of the organization. The award involves delivering the keynote lecture at the SHAFR luncheon at the AHA annual meeting; Prof. Shannon’s lecture will be January 2020 in New York City.
